Mysteries of the Kingdom hidden in the Pomegranate

I was recently spending time ministering to a precious woman of God.  Over the course of a few months, Holy Spirit had shared wonderful revelations to her from His Word concerning healing.  I knew that we had come to the place where the Father wanted me to teach her the importance of His Word, including the importance of the truths that had been ministered to her – her healing was held in them.  I just did not know how He wanted me to do that.  Holy Spirit was faithful though, and the day I was to meet with her again, He revealed afresh to me the importance of His Word, and also introduced me to the mystery of the pomegranate…

I once saw a television program of a woman who had bought a wooden chair in a backyard sale for her daughter’s room. The chair was old and needed some attention before she could use it.  So this woman stored it in her garage until she was ready to get to working on it.  The day she went into her garage to work on the chair, she turned it upside down to start sanding it. There on the bottom of the chair she noticed an inscription. She had the sense to stop what she was doing and take the chair to an evaluator. It turned out that the chair was of great value and should she sell it, she would instantly be considerably wealthy.  I couldn’t help but notice that after she understood its value, the chair was moved from the dusty garage to a special place in the house and even had a special cover over it for protection – just in case.

There is an eternal truth illustrated in this story:  once you understand the value that something has, you will treat it differently.  Similarly, once you understand the incredible value that the Word has for you, you will treat it differently.  If you have been struggling to crack open your Bible, or just know that you should be spending more time in it but don’t really feel motivated enough, or when you do read the Bible it mostly feels like just words on a page – I believe the truths hidden in the pomegranate could completely change that around for you!

Have you ever noticed that the inside of the pomegranate looks a lot like the brain?   The nectar coated seeds in the pomegranate represent the nutritious Word of God, the truths of God – nutritious thoughts.  If I am struggling with my mind, if my way of thinking is causing pain in my life and the lives of those I love – how do I change that?  Let’s take a look at what the Word instructs us to do so that we can become free and healthy.

Proverbs 4:20 (Passion Translation)

Listen carefully, my dear child, to everything that I teach you, and pay attention to all that I have to say.

Pomegranate seeds look like jewels.  Just like any other precious stones, the jewels of the Word do not lie on the surface of the Word, you have to dig deeper to discover or uncover it’s treasures.   In other words, we have to think deeply about the Word.  Listen carefully. Pay attention.  In this way, we replace our own faulty and deceptive thinking with the truth.  We begin to think more and more like Jesus, Who is Truth and Life.

When a pomegranate is fully ripe, you don’t have to pry it open. As the seed inside it swells, it strains the thick skin to the point of bursting, exposing the beautiful fruit inside.  This bursting open is a picture of the Word coming alive in your heart.  It’s not just words on a page anymore, not just something you agree to with your mind – but a breaking open, the words are unwrapped, revealed to you like never before.

How do I break open the Word in my heart?  Well, I don’t.  Holy Spirit does.  A fully ripe pomegranate, which bursts open by itself, represents Holy Spirit making the Word come alive in you.  When Holy Spirit has opened up a scripture to you, He has just given you something of infinite value.  That is because when the Word breaks open inside of your heart, the life of God contained in it flows out.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (Amplified)

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being and with all your might.

And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.

Even though Holy Spirit is the force behind revelation, you still play an important role – you need to be paying attention.  If there is no Word in your heart, there is nothing to break open.  So read the Word, listen to the Word and think deeply about the Word.  Plant it in your heart.

Loving God is loving the Word. The book of Hebrews actually talks about giving the Word your super abundant attention.  That’s definitely more than just a few minutes here and there!  When Jesus, Who is the Word, is first in your heart and mind, His truths begin to swell in you and penetrate the ‘thick skin’ of your heart.

Proverbs 4:21-22 (Passion Translation)

Fill your thoughts with my words until they penetrate deep into your spirit. Then, as you unwrap my words, they will impart true life and radiant health into the very core of your being.

V22 (kjv) For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

This is an amazing scripture!  God’s words are life to those who have unwrapped them or uncovered them AND they are health to all their flesh. We fill our thoughts with God’s words until they become ripe and are unwrapped for us to taste and eat.

Pomegranates have very high quality polyphenols that can efficiently neutralize harmful free radicals in our bodies. Think of toxic (poisonous) thoughts – God’s truth, when eaten, efficiently neutralizes the lies of the enemy.  As you think on the truths of God and change your old ways of thinking, lush pathways are physically growing in your brain, replacing unhealthy ones.  That means that as you give God’s truth priority in your life, the Word is actually becoming flesh.  The enemy’s tactic is deception, he wants your mind darkened and in confusion.  But he becomes pretty powerless when your mind is saturated in truth.

Pomegranates also contain a potent source of disease-fighting antioxidants.  The kingdom of darkness causes fear, depression, low-self esteem, selfishness, bitterness, brokenness, rage, hate, and so on.  These kinds of emotions and thinking can cause our minds and bodies to become sick and we can even die.  But God’s discovered truths are medicine to your flesh. Remember, His Word will heal your whole man.

  • Holy Spirit revelation comes from a meek heart that is seeking truth by steadfastly giving the Word high priority.
  • Holy Spirit revelation is what breaks open the life contained in God’s words.
  • The life poured into you from God’s Word becomes medicine to your whole man and wholesome to your whole man.

Romans 5:17 (Passion Translation)

Death once held us in its grip, and by the blunder of one man, death reigned as king over humanity. But now, how much more are we held in the grip of grace and continue reigning as kings in life, enjoying our regal freedom through the gift of perfect righteousness in the one and only Jesus, the Messiah!

There is a crown on the top of the pomegranate.  Yeshua is the King of kings.  Because of the cross, we no longer have to be slaves to the enemy.  (I love how the juice of the pomegranate is the color of blood and that it actually stains your clothing – you can’t just wash it off.)  When we are saturated with the sweet nectar of truth on the inside and are continually transformed into the image of Jesus, we can reign as kings in life through Him.

Proverbs 4:23 (Passion Translation)

Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.

Pay attention to your thought life!  Fill your thoughts with truth.  The more our minds are renewed to God’s way of thinking, the more of His life flows in us and through us – to heal, to restore, to protect, to strengthen, to give wisdom.  To pick us up again when we have fallen down.  To enable us to walk in His authority and righteousness.  Thinking God’s thoughts imparts His very life into you.  He is your sustenance.  He is your Source of life.  That means your wellbeing originates in Him.

Is there anything more precious than a living relationship with the Word of God?

Revelation 19:11-13

Then I saw heaven opened, and suddenly a white horse appeared. The name of the one riding it was Faithful and True, and with pure righteousness he judges and rides to battle. He wore many regal crowns, and his eyes were flashing like flames of fire. He had a secret name inscribed on him that’s known only to himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title is called the Word of God.
